Other Subreddits. I have an old Dell that has a BIOS password that I do not know. I tried clearing the CMOS by removing the CMOS battery, it did not work. (I even left it out for over 24 hours!). I also tried moving the jumpers on the CMOS pins, it did not work either. (Also, on this board, there are two jumpers and two sets of 3 pins right next to each other.

In all of the guides online, only one set is ever mentioned). I tried booting without the HDD in, still a password. I tried booting with a Windows install disk in, still locked out.I should mention, taking out the CMOS battery, does appear to reset the settings, but the system password prompt still comes up.I can't do anything, this password comes up before I can get into any settings or the OS or anything.

It wont let me in into the BIOS settings or boot menu either. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

I'm just trying to get this old Dell usable so my sister can have a computer (before you ask, no she does not know the password). Could flashing the BIOS fix this?

I don't know any ways of flashing the BIOS without actually being able to have access to it, but if anyone does that would be very helpful. Anything would be helpful. It is a Dell Dimension 4700 with Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS version 1.10 A09. You need to clear the CMOS settings to put everything back to default. Once you have it at default you can do whatever you want (copy it, upgrade the BIOS, etc.) Since it is a Dell, I don't think there is a password by default, so you should be able to get right in, or just press enter if it asks you for a password.EDIT: My apologies, I just read your post title and suggested a solution based on that.

After reading your post I see that you did what the above recommends. Wow let me think about this because that is bizarre that popping out the CMOS battery did not clear things up, and neither did the jumpers. Maybe your mobo went bad? The extreme, will-definitely-work solution would be to replace the BIOS chip entirely, but you need a chip puller tool and a new BIOS to do that.
